About 18 years ago I started up a friendship by post, with Joyce. I was still in school and she was about my grandmothers age but you would never have known it. She was a friendly lady who kept up with what was in and what was not and she really knew how to talk to anyone and make them feel special.
Joyce did a lot for anyone who needed it and she was well loved by everyone she met.
Joyce lived in Vryheid with her daughter,Avelyn, and her family, who I think will miss her the most.
I am also friends with her son,Cato (Alfred, or Alfie as Joyce used to call him) and his family and my heart goes out to them now as they feel this tremendous loss. I know that one day they will all be together again and so, until then, I hope they can remember all their good memories of Joyce and all their happy times with her.
Joyce was a VERY special lady.

A Whale Story.
I've been thinking of something I could write here as a testimonial, but I cannot find the right words, but I was sent this by a friend, and instantly thought of The Creak Family, so I would like to share this with you, knowing Joyce will already know this.~~ The Whale. If you read the front page story of The San Francisco Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundred of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Favralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate Bridge)and radioed an environmenatl group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her...~~one slap of her tail could kill a rescuer.~~They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.~~ When she was free, the divers said " she swam in what seemed like joyous circles." She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around -- she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredible, beautiful experience of their lives.~~ The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth, says " her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same." ~~ May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude. I pass this on to you, my friend, in the same spirit.
